NORTHERN EXPOSURE. Well, traveling to the northern reaches of Haiti is always an interesting experience, and this time was no different. We drove to Gonaives on Tuesday evening (4 hours) and checked into our hotel (The Union de Frères Hotel, doesn't rate a star with triple-A, but not too bad). The next morning we made our way to Gros Morne for the Upper Artibonite District Assembly (2 hours, 31 miles). An interesting assembly, to say the least, but I shan't elaborate. Thursday was our LONG day with 48 miles to drive (4 hours) to the Far North West district Assembly. Friday was "just" 2.5 hours to Bassin Bleu for the North West District. Saturday was the real cinch, since the assembly was right there in Gonaives. Home by 6:00 p.m.! We rented a 4x4 to drive "only" 200 miles over five days. This tour concluded a month of assemblies (11 in all) where we traveled by car, boat, and plane! One thing about missionary life, it makes you an expert on multiple modes of transportation!
